If you were a bird, which type of bird would you be? A sparrow, small and witty, adaptable? An eagle, big and always on the lookout for more, protecting its territory? Or maybe you’re like a caged canary? A messenger who’s valued by people but for the one service it can provide in mines, but never otherwise listened to?
There once was a bird who every day flew here and there. Sometimes he soared to great heights, sometimes he just hopped on the ground picking a few grains or ants. He was always ready to flap his wings and take off again to glide across the vast open sky… and then one day, a thought crossed his mind. “Why is it that I can fly? Why do I breathe? Why am I alive? I’ve heard of air, but I can’t manage to see it! And where is the sky? No matter how high I fly, I can’t ever reach the sky.”
Soon thereafter he met with a flock of birds who gathered to discuss: “Who among us has seen air? Who has found the sky?” Not a single bird came forward to claim they had seen it or made it to the sky. Then one bird spoke up, “I believe my great-grandmother once saw air.” Another bird eagerly agreed, “Yes, I’ve heard the same, but WE can’t see air, WE can’t reach the sky, it’s just not for us, it’s only for a few chosen ones.”
From that day onwards, our bird just kept hearing the echo of “only for a few chosen ones, we can’t see air, we can’t reach the sky…”
What is it that the birds didn’t realize? They were surrounded by air. They were flying in the sky every single day, surrounded by the essence of what they were looking for, breathing in what sustained them non-stop. It is the very essence that allows them to fly, to breathe, to exist. Are you sometimes like one of these birds too?
Just as air is ever-present for the bird, so is the divine, so is Creator God’s energy, the universe’s love (or whatever name we give that all-pervading energy), and so is enlightenment—it is the very core of our being. It’s not something to gain, that’s different from you or separate from you, it’s not outside of you or something to learn to attain. God’s energy, the divine flow of love, enlightenment is there all the time—can you allow it to just be again, notice it’s there all along? Never mind if for you it’s a bit like for the flock of birds, nobody else around you seems to remember what the sky is, what the essence of the divine is because nobody paid attention to it? Because everyone took what was around them for granted and never paid attention to the countless miracles taking place at any given moment? Have you too been told paradise is not here but supposedly somewhere else and you aren’t allowed to be joyful for no particular reason?
Limiting Beliefs about Enlightenment and Their Impact
Many of us carry limiting beliefs that prevent us from fully realizing our connection to enlightenment. These beliefs can be deeply ingrained, stemming from societal conditioning, cultural upbringing, and even spiritual teachings. One of the most pervasive beliefs is that enlightenment is only for a select few—the so-called “chosen ones.” This belief can create a sense of unworthiness, convincing us that we are not capable or deserving of experiencing the divine. In truth, enlightenment is not reserved for any specific group; it is our birthright, accessible to all, regardless of background, gender, or socioeconomic status.
Another common belief is that enlightenment takes forever—many lifetimes—to achieve. This perspective can make the spiritual journey seem daunting and unattainable. Yet, enlightenment is not about achieving a perfect state over countless lifetimes; it is about recognizing what is already here, right now. It is a state of awareness that can be experienced in this very lifetime, in the present moment, when we allow ourselves to let go of the limitations that bind us.
The idea that one needs a guru, priest, or someone else to bestow enlightenment upon them is another common belief that limits personal empowerment. While spiritual teachers and guides can be valuable in helping us navigate our path and helping us clear karmic blocks, true enlightenment resides within. No one else can grant it to you. It is an inner awakening, remembering enlightenment. It’s a realization and visceral experience that you are already connected to the divine source and not separate from Creator God nor anybody nor anything else. You do not need external validation or permission to access and be it.
Gender, caste, or social standing are also barriers that some people perceive in their pursuit of enlightenment. However, the divine energy that flows through all of us does not differentiate based on these human constructs. Enlightenment is an inner experience, and it transcends all societal divisions. It is available to every human being, regardless of their gender identity or social background. To believe otherwise is to limit the expansive, all-encompassing nature of the divine.
- Do you happen to have any of these sort of beliefs? How have they been impacting your spiritual journey?
- Have you felt like it’s preposterous to even think you could embark on the enlightenment journey?
- Have you struggled to be consistent with your self-discovery and felt like giving up?
When we internalize these beliefs, we create barriers between ourselves and the very essence of what we seek and are. We tend to suppress the feminine aspects of us. How can you tell if you are unintentionally blocking half of your gifts? If you notice feeling split, separate from others, if you find you are attacking yourself or don’t allow yourself to rest or be creative or be happy, then these are all likely signs to pay attention to.
And guess what the good news is? Beliefs can be changed, beliefs can be transformed. How can you do that? Listen to your thoughts – what sort of a thought is it that just crossed your mind? How does it make you feel? Can you be 100% certain it’s true? Question your beliefs, shine a light on them. You will notice that the walls that separate you from your own divine nature will be dismantled belief by belief.

Embracing Your Journey
What if everything you’ve been searching for is already here? What if enlightenment is not a distant destination, but simply the awareness of what already surrounds you? Consider where in your life you might be like the birds, feeling disconnected from the divine presence that is actually always there.
- Where in your life are you seeking something that you might already have, but haven’t allowed yourself to see?
- What would change if you could recognize the presence of the divine, of joy, of freedom right here, right now?
Remembering Enlightenment
Next time you feel disconnected or lost, pause for a moment and simply breathe. Notice the air entering your nostrils, feel the temperature of the air, feel the air filling your lungs, picture the air as it travels along the branches of your lungs, eventually filling the alveoli. Imagine how you can feel the air becoming warmer as it’s spreading throughout your lungs… And let each breath be a reminder that, just like the birds, you’re surrounded by the divine. The air too is the divine, and now it’s becoming you in your body. Place your hand on your heart and breathe slowly for a few moments, noticing the miracle of your own existence. Can you allow yourself to feel a sense of connection that is already within you?
Life Mastery Journeys Altar Card Exercise
To help you integrate this profound message from the bird remembering enlightenment in your daily life and spiritual practice, I’ve created a special altar card for you. The message on this card is:
“The divine love and enlightenment are at the core of my being. I am always connected and whole.”
This card will serve as a visual reminder of your divine nature and the innocent, enlightened core of your being. Using this altar card on your altar or in your meditation space can support you in clearing limiting beliefs and embodying the truth of your divinity. I invite you to use this free Life Mastery Journeys Altar Card, print it out and let the message sink in deeper every time you see it, changing the way you view your body and life.
How to use your altar card:
1. Print out the altar card (which you’ll find below).
2. Place the card on your altar or in a special meditation area where you feel most connected to your spiritual practice. If you don’t have an altar, simply place it in a safe, sacred space where you like to focus and reflect.
3. Light a candle to symbolize the illumination of your divine truth.
4. Connect to your inner core, say a prayer or meditate, asking for support in being present to your inner core. You may say something like, “Divine Source within, I give myself permission to sink into my core where all is well, whole and complete.”
5. Leave the card in your sacred space as a visual reminder, or use it later as a card in a small deck to answer questions you may have about your divine path.
By engaging with this simple practice, you can retrain your mind to give you the space to allow yourself to sense your core, its infinite wisdom and ultimately help you to remember enlightenment . Give yourself permission to let this wisdom penetrate deeper into your subconscious mind and create real shifts in your reality.
Let it be a visual reminder that enlightenment is not something far away—it is the essence of your very being.

FAQ on Enlightenment & Spiritual Growth Journey
1. What is enlightenment, and why does it feel so unattainable?
Enlightenment is often misunderstood as something distant and exclusive. In reality, it is simply an awareness of our true nature—the divine presence within and around us. It’s not something to attain, but something to remember and allow. It’s about realizing that we are already connected to the essence of what we seek.
2. How can I feel more connected to the divine in my everyday life?
Feeling connected to the divine can start with simple practices, like mindful breathing or moments of gratitude. Just as the birds are always surrounded by air, we are always surrounded by divine energy. Pause and breathe deeply, place your hand on your heart, and let yourself feel the miracle of your existence. Remembering this connection can make a profound difference in your daily experience.
3. What is an altar card, and how can it help me on my spiritual journey?
An altar card is a visual tool to remind you of your divine nature. It can be placed in your sacred space to help you focus on a particular message or energy. The Life Mastery Journeys Altar Card provides a tangible reminder of your inherent connection to the divine and helps anchor that truth into your subconscious mind.
4. Why does it sometimes feel like spiritual growth is so challenging?
Spiritual growth can feel challenging because we are often conditioned to seek externally what is already within us. We’re taught to chase goals and outcomes rather than recognizing our inherent wholeness. The journey involves unlearning these beliefs, which can feel like a challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to step into true freedom and connection.
5. What can I expect from a Life Mastery Belief Transformation Session?
In a Life Mastery Belief Transformation Session, we work to uncover and clear limiting beliefs that hold you back. The session is designed to help you reconnect with your inner guidance and align with your highest potential working with source / creator / God energy. You can expect gentle, supportive guidance to help you create meaningful shifts, release old patterns, and step into a more empowered version of yourself.
6. Is enlightenment something that only a few people can achieve?
No, enlightenment is not exclusive or reserved for only a few chosen ones. This belief itself is a limitation that keeps us from realizing the truth. Enlightenment is available to everyone, as it is the very essence of who we are. It is not about being special or different, but simply about being aware of the divine presence that is always within us and around us.
7. How can I overcome the belief that I am not worthy of experiencing enlightenment?
The belief that you are not worthy of enlightenment often comes from external conditioning and experiences that made you feel less than whole. Remember, worthiness is inherent to who you are. You are already connected to the divine, and your journey is about remembering this truth. Practice self-compassion, spend time with the altar card, and allow yourself to feel that divine connection—you are already worthy.
8. Why do I feel disconnected even when I try to meditate or practice mindfulness?
Feeling disconnected during meditation or mindfulness is common, especially when we approach these practices with an expectation of a particular outcome. The key is to let go of the pressure to “feel” connected and instead focus on simply being present, even if it means noticing thoughts popping up. Disconnection often comes from trying too hard or comparing our experience to others. Trust that even when it feels like nothing is happening, you are still deepening your connection—the process is unfolding in its own time.
9. Why do we often overlook what sustains us?
We often overlook what sustains us because it becomes so familiar that we take it for granted and simply don’t pay attention to it. We forget to notice the profound aspects of our existence, like the divine presence that is always with us. Becoming mindful and taking moments to pause helps us reconnect to what is always sustaining us.
10. How does societal conditioning make us believe that enlightenment is unreachable?
Societal conditioning often teaches us that we need to be special, perfect, or chosen to attain enlightenment. This belief creates a sense of separation and reinforces the idea that enlightenment is something distant and unattainable. In truth, enlightenment is about becoming aware of our inherent connection to the divine, something accessible to everyone regardless of status or circumstance.
11. What can we learn from the bird’s perspective about our spiritual journey?
The bird’s story teaches us that what we seek is often already present in our lives. Our spiritual journey is not about searching for something external, but about recognizing and remembering what is already here. By shifting our perspective, we can see that the divine, love, and enlightenment are not far-off destinations—they are the very fabric of our being.
12. How does the concept of “the chosen ones” affect our self-belief?
The concept of “the chosen ones” can create a sense of unworthiness and make us believe that enlightenment or divine connection is reserved for only a select few. This belief is limiting and can prevent us from fully realizing our true nature. When we let go of the idea that only some are worthy, we open ourselves to the truth that we are all inherently connected to the divine and capable of experiencing enlightenment.
